FAQs

  • “HypnoBirthing® is as much a philosophy as it is a technique. It is a rewarding, relaxing, stress-free method of birthing that is based on the belief that all babies should come into the world gently, in an atmosphere of calm and joy. HypnoBirthing prepares a birthing couple – physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually – for an easier, more comfortable and, sometimes, pain-free, birth. Through a well-thought-out program of deep relaxation, self-hypnosis, special breathing techniques, visualizations, affirmations, and education, HypnoBirthing® returns to a woman the art of birthing in a way that allows her to summon her natural birthing instincts and to birth her baby safely and with ease.” - HypnoBirthing Educator Syllabus

  • Hypnosis is a tool to assist a willing person into a calm and deeply relaxed state - similar to meditation. In HypnoBirthing® we use this state to help let go of fear, tension, and preconceived thoughts to support a more comfortable, confident, and positive birth experience.

  • No, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. Contrary to popular “stage-hypnosis”, you cannot be guided into a state of hypnosis unless you want to. Once in a state of hypnosis, no one can tell you how to act or to believe in something that is against your core values or beliefs. It is up to you what suggestions you will accept or reject. If someone tried to manipulate you to do something you do not want, you would come out of hypnosis. You are in control.

  • All hypnosis is self-hypnosis. If you want to reach a state of hypnosis you will. Like anything, practice and effort on your end will help you achieve your desired results, including being hypnotized. HypnoBirthing® can even work for those with an analytical mind.

  • A birth partner (this can refer to your spouse, partner, family member, close friend, or doula) is not required to attend. However, the course is set up to have your birth partner to be a part of the birthing process, be your advocate, and support you.

That being said, you will still be able to utilize the tools you learn for your birth without a birth partner and of course are welcome!

  • No. While children are fun to be around, we want our class environment to be as free from distraction as possible.

If you have an older child that you want to be your birth partner, please contact me so we can discuss if they can come or not.

  • All expecting parents from 16 to 34 weeks are welcome to attend. Around the 28 week mark is a good time to start your class. This way you can allow yourself more time to practice techniques you learn and prepare for your upcoming birth.

If you are past 35 weeks already, no worries! Send me a message and we can look into making special arrangements for an individual class for you.

  • Yes! Whether this is your first or you’ve already had multiple, this class is for everyone. HypnoBirthing® techniques can equip you with tools to feel empowered and help give you the birth you want.

  • HypnoBirthing® does not claim to make birth totally free of pain, discomfort, or unanticipated events. That being said, classes do offer the opportunity to explore birth without fear, stress, and preparation for whatever turn your birth may take. Some previous HypnoBirhting® parents have reported little to no pain during delivery.

  • This is up to you! HypnoBirthing® is for everyone, not only those who are planning an unmedicated birth. Like other things, HypnoBirthing® is a tool, some parents take classes with the intention to use and receive medication while others do not. I encourage parents to make the choices that are right for you and learn how to advocate for your choices.

  • Yes! However your baby is born and whatever turn your birth takes you want to make yourself as calm and comfortable for birth as possible. Moms who have had cesarean births with HypnoBirthing® report that their recoveries were faster and easier because they were able to relax and utilize the tools that they learned.
